3 pet-friendly treats that you can make at home

Welcome to the world of pet-friendly recipes, where the joy of cooking extends to your beloved furry companions! Crafting homemade treats and meals for your pets allows you to control the quality of ingredients, ensuring they receive a wholesome and balanced diet.

 

Here are 3 simple, pet-friendly recipes that’ll have your pets coming back for more. 

1. Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

  • 1/3 cup dry milk

  • 1/2 cup cornmeal

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup mashed banana

  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, dry milk, and cornmeal.

  • Mix peanut butter, water, mashed banana, and egg in a separate bowl.

  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until well combined.

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.

  • Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet.

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Allow the biscuits to cool completely before serving to your dog.

 

2. Tuna Cat Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 can tuna in water, drained

  • 1 cup oat flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon dried catnip (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • In a food processor, combine tuna, oat flour, egg, and catnip (if using).

  • Process until the mixture forms a dough.

  • Roll small amounts of dough into balls and place them on a greased baking sheet.

  • Flatten each ball with a fork or your fingers.

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

  • Allow the treats to cool before serving them to your cat.

 

3. Pumpkin Dog Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup canned or fresh pumpkin

  • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt (without added sugars)

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • In a bowl, mix pumpkin, yoghurt, and melted coconut oil.

  • Gradually add in the flour until a dough forms.

  • Roll out the dough on a flour-dusted surface and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces.

  • Place the pieces on a baking sheet.

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the treats are firm.

  • Cool completely before serving to your dog.

Remember to check with your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your pet’s diet, especially if they have any health concerns or dietary restrictions.
